Gray Television’s KWQC-TV Davenport, Iowa, was nominated for a 2020 Service to Community Award in the Television – Small Market category.

On the afternoon of April 30, 2019, a temporary flood barrier failed, releasing the Mississippi River into Davenport’s downtown. Following the devastation, KWQC launched an all-encompassing campaign to help the community and businesses recover. In the weeks and months that followed, this station orchestrated three major service, donation and business events to help repair the damage and raise the money and resources to recover. In addition to aiding in the recovery, this dedicated news team went one step further, launching an investigation into why the community was so ill prepared and reporting on what could have been done by city officials to inform and prepare the community for the impending devastation.
