Hearstís WDSU New Orleans organized a telethon after Hurricane Laura hit on August 27. While the category 4 hurricane largely spared New Orleans, Hurricane Laura hit Louisianaís coast of hard. The ensuing destruction forced many to evacuate to New Orleans. WDSUís telethon resulted in 660,000 meals for local residents affected by the storm.
