For 29 years, WAVY10-TV in Norfolk, Va., has teamed up with local businesses, nonprofits and churches to collect, clean and distribute winter garments to families in need. This year the WAVY’s 10 “On Your Side Coats for Families” campaign set a new record by gathering more than 16,000 coats.

Hampton Roads residents turned out in windy, frigid weather to donate and gently used coats for people of all ages.

“We are elated that the Hampton Roads community came together to make a lasting difference by donating a record setting number of coats” says Carol Ward, WAVY’s GM. “It is humbling and a testament to the power of 10 On Your Side and the strength of our community partners.”
