The ABC Network broadcast the Muscular Dystrophy Associationís 48th annual "Show of Strength Telethon" on September 1 and raised more than $59.6 million in pledges. All contributions will support the treatment of muscular dystrophy and related diseases, and provide funding for research to find a cure. The two-hour event featured stories of those who are battling muscular dystrophy and appearances by numerous celebrities and entertainers including Ryan Seacrest, Florence Henderson, the Backstreet Boys and Paula Abdul.
